Russian Bikers Demand Comrades' Release In Iraq

Some 500 Russian motorcyclists, or bikers, have picketed the Iraqi Embassy in Moscow, demanding immediate release four of their colleagues arrested in Iraq.

The bikers handed the petition to embassy officials.

Four Russian bikers were arrested on May 19 when they entered Iraq from Turkey on motorcycles.

Russian Foreign Ministry officials say the bikers were traveling on motorcycles across the Middle East and did not have Iraqi visas.

According to the Foreign Ministry, the four Russian bikers will be released soon.

Iraqi Embassy officials were not available for immediate comments on the issue.

Based on reporting by ITAR-TASS, Interfax, and AFP

RFE/RL has been declared an "undesirable organization" by the Russian government.
